Tech Tips for Your Information Technology Success
Your information’s security is incredibly valuable to you and your company. So much that it may cost real dollars if you ignore this fact. To help with keeping your information secure, we have created a few quick tips to help you in your business and technology journey.
#1 – Back up your computer It’s been said before, but it bears repeating: back up your computer before something goes wrong. Many people underestimate the likelihood of something going wrong with their computer. Data loss can happen to anyone, at anytime. Backing up your computer is now easier than ever. There is more than one way to go about it, ultimately leading to a similar result. An onsite backup includes an external hard drive or another computer, while off-site refers to using the cloud (someone else’s service) for your backup. External hard drives are great for fast recovery. If a file has accidentally been deleted it can be quickly recovered. However, if something happens to your external hard drive many of the files you thought were safe can be gone just as quickly. Therefore off-site back up is of equal importance.
#2 – Use secure passwords Using secure passwords is an easy way to ensure a level of privacy within your business. When creating a password, make sure to refrain from using common techniques to create your password. Some common passwords to avoid would include: your first or last name, a birthday, or even the name of a birth town. A secure password is a combination of letters and numbers in an order that only you can identify. Writing your password down in a safe location hidden from your computer will help guarantee a protected password.
#3 – Privacy settings on social networks It is important to be aware of your privacy settings on social media networks. Be careful to read through agreements and make sure you know what you are agreeing to before moving forward. Social media sites are a helpful tool in the world of business and marketing, but be sure to protect your privacy!
#4 – Use your resources Using your resources to your advantage is a huge key in learning how to be successful with technology. The internet contains a majority of the knowledge needed to figure out a wide range of answers to specific questions. Trying to figure out how use Excel to its full potential? Or trying to develop a brand for your company? The internet is a huge tool you can use for your success!
#5 – Reduce the number of programs running at one time If your computer has been slowing down on you, remember to reduce the number of programs running. By reducing the number of programs your computer can perform more efficiently, allowing you to be more productive with your time and ultimately more successful! We sincerely hope these tips have been helpful to you and your business. Please feel free to reach out with any further questions!
